The Paris Autumn Festival

9/01/2008 - 12/31/2008Autumn Festival The Paris Autumn Festival (Festival d'Automne) presents an eclectic mix of literature, poetry, film and theatre from around the world. Created in 1972 by Michel Guy, Georges Pompidou's Minister of Culture, the festival quickly grew and has established itself as one of the region's best cultural events for avant-garde and forward-looking artistic creation. The festival presents a season-long programme of events that begins in September and runs through until Christmas Themes: Theatre & Film , Art & Literature

Edinburgh Bookcase 2008
The British Council Literature Department and British Council Scotland are pleased to announce that we will provide a forum for intercultural dialogue through Literature at Edinburgh International Book Festival in partnership with the Scottish Arts Council from Thursday 14 - Monday 18 August this year. The Bookcase programme will offer readings, performances and discussion from a wide range of established and emerging authors from the UK with opportunities for interaction amongst the participants.
We are looking to identify new partners outside the UK who will lead to the creation of networks and innovative work for international markets. We welcome applications from programmers, translators, journalists, writers, teachers and others involved in the publishing, creative and knowledge economy. Good understanding of English is essential. Registration can be completed online now

The London Book Fair and the Arab World.
The Market Focus for the 2008 London Book Fair is the Arab World, defined as the 20 countries and two states which have Arabic as their registered official language. The main objectives of this Market Focus will be to strengthen cultural relations with the Arab World, to educate the global publishing industry about Arab literature, and allow the Arab publishers to promote their books and literature to all parts of the world via the Fair. A three day cultural programme celebrating the strength and diversity of Arabic literature will consist of a series of talks, discussions, debates and workshops aimed at encouraging collaboration between UK and Arab publishers and translators. Current trends in contemporary Arabic literature will be introduced to a UK audience through a showcase of some of the best writers and writing from the Arabic world. The London Book Fair will run from 14 – 16 April 2008.

The museum is arranged on the ground floor of the old castle of "La Motte" became the City Hall of Vémars (France) after having belonged to the family of the woman of the novelist. Evocation of François Mauriac's life and his family at Vémars. The tomb of the Nobel Prize is located at the very close cemetery.
